RBS 6 Nations 2013: The Rugby Blog’s fantasy teams

six nations trophyWith just three days to go until the 2013 RBS Six Nations kicks off, we at The Rugby Blog have been hard at work debating and arguing about who to pick in our fantasy line-ups. Despite rehashing our teams many times, and Hutch’s insistence that he can’t find ‘Jamie Joseph’ on the list, we’ve settled on the selections below.

A few interesting trends have emerged. Dan Cole has one front row spot locked down, as does Cian Healy (almost). Despite France’s selection policy being about as reliable as a London bus, and the fact he may be injured for the first game, we have all plumped for giant Louis Picamoles in the back row. Johnny Sexton is a popular choice to partner Morgan Parra at half-back, and Jon Davies has been strongly backed in the centres. Manu Tuilagi’s injury has meant some late reshuffling, with French wrecking-ball Mathieu Bastareaud a risky option taken by a few – Billy Twelvetrees, in line for his debut, is another option. Finally in the back three, Wesley Fofana is almost an ever-present as he looks to continue his fine form.

With a few team announcements left to be made, these picks could be subject to a few late changes. However, barring injuries, most of those selected will be confident of starting.

There’s still time to add your team to the blog’s competition – you can get all the details, along with some handy selection tips, by clicking here.

  1. I like the look of MY team the best.

  2. Surprised nobody has picked Tim Visser!

    • Probably because with Sean Lamont on the inside, he’ll never see the ball…

  3. Going by the total of the selectors, we have thus!

    Healy
    Jones
    Cole
    Gray/Launchbury
    Parling/Papé
    Picamoles
    Brown
    Heaslip
    Parisse
    Parra
    Sexton
    Davies
    Twelvetrees/Bastareau
    Ashton
    Gilroy
    Fofana

I think you could have Heaslip and Parisse in, but then you’d have the dilemma of which one to be #8. Heaslip better in defense, Parisse better in attack?

    • oops sorry. No room for Brown. Was wondering how I had 16! ..

  4. Why pick Morgan Parra? He isn’t starting

    • If you look, Calum, it says these teams are subject to change post-team announcements. I imagine most of us will have swapped him out now.

  5. Are you guys going to update your picks each week?
