The news that Toby Flood will return from injury for Leicester this weekend was met with great cheer, not just by Tigers fans, but also by England followers with one eye on New Zealand in a few weeks’ time.
There has been some debate on Twitter in the last day or so, and we’re interested in your thoughts as to which of the two should start at 10. Take the poll and then leave a comment below with your rationale.
“I thought Wilkinson looked poor for most of the ospreys match” – just like to point out that that was Wilko’s 9th full game in 8 weeks. The bloke is shatttered. Wilko has been playing great rugby down at Toulon and if he can continue it for England then we’ll be fine. Personally, I don’t think “who should play at fly half” is our biggest concern, but yet who should play in the centres. For me, the only one that has actually stood out this season so far is Barritt. Hape, Tindall, Waldouck, Flutey and even Barkley have all looked average. So far this season, the following are who I believe deserve to be given a chance during the AI’s
1. Sheridan
2. Hartley
3. Cole
4. Lawes
5. Kennedy
6. Robshaw
7. Moody
8. Dowson
9. Youngs
10. Wilko
11. Strettle
12. Barritt
13. Tindall
14. Ashton
15. Foden
Does anyone know who the “other” options are that people have been voting for?
i prefer flood actually.
not least because he plays with Youngs every week and Youngs will probably be our no 9 for the next 10 years.
But sadly hes been injured and will lack match sharpness, so MJ will go for Jonny.
There isnt anyone else around really who has their hand up.
Seen Johnny vs Castres and Ospreys and am wondering why is he is getting these rave reviews. He’s doing well, but not at the level he used to. His defence especially is no longer the powerhouse it used to be.
In attack he looks to vary it a bit more, but has a tendency to go back into this shell when pressured – as he will be at international level. IF Flood can prove fitness and form in the next 4 games he is the best bet, if not then Johnny is a fine replacement, but still not the player he once was.
I just caught the second half of the Toulon – Munster match and Wilkinson didn’t look great. He’s got an accurate pass but didn’t seem to be marshalling the attacks very well. Toulon looked very ragged because of it.
Have to go for Jonny. I imagine the visitors would strongly prefer Flood or anyone else other than Jonny. As others have said though, neither instill a great deal of confidence. A lot will depend on the forward battle – both would look pretty good with the right platform, and both would look crap without it.
Hartley is my boy. You don’t have him ranked the top, which there are a couple of others who I would agree top him out- but he’s my fav.
