However, he must've indicated the substitution to the 4th official during the previous play, as when they stopped for the penalty (the next stoppage) the 4th official told him that the ref was insisting the substitution had to be made. Bad timing for Quins - they were obviously on their way back to a 20-point victory. Does anybody know why Richards did change Nick Evans for Malone when amidst one of their typical Quins come-backs, trailing 16-10, they had a very kickable penalty which would have put them only 16-13 behind with still 10 minutes to go?
