Ireland unveil Autumn Internationals squad
Ireland have included Leinster’s South-African born hooker Richardt Strauss as one of four uncapped players after coach Declan Kidney unveiled his 31-man squad ahead of the November Internationals on Wednesday.
Munster’s David Kilcoyne and Ulster’s Iain Henderson and Luke Marshall join Strauss as the newcomers, however there is no place for British and Irish Lions full-back Rob Kearney who will miss the series after being told he requires back surgery.
Strauss has been selected after qualifying for residency having lived in Ireland for three years.
Coach Declan Kidney has also added to his backroom staff, with Munster assistant coach Anthony Foley – who was capped 62 times for Ireland – taking on the role of defence coach.
“I’m pleased that Anthony has taken up the offer of working with the squad to assist during this vital period in November,” Kidney said. “His previous experience of working with the team during the last Six Nations championship was important, but his own abilities and experience were central to bringing him on board.”
Ireland will face South Africa, Fiji and Argentina across three weeks.
