Heineken Cup 2011/12 Predictions: Round 5
The final scramble for quarter-final places in the Heineken Cup takes place over the next two weekends, and here are my Round 5 predictions.
I’ve gone for three home wins in the Friday night matches, with Ulster v Leicester particularly tricky to predict. Home advantage will hopefully be enough to see Ulster home at a packed Ravenhill, but the Tigers will always be dangerous.
The Scarlets should prevail over the Saints who are now just making up the numbers, and I fancy Montpellier to beat Bath at home.
London Irish let me down badly in Round 4 when I finally got behind them, so I’m not making that mistake again, particularly now they are pretty much out of contention.
None of the others are too controversial. I think Leinster will continue their winning ways, despite a tough trip to Glasgow, and I expect Quins and Sarries to win their home ties.
Here are my Heineken Cup predictions for Round 5 – let me know what you think.
Ospreys v Benetton Treviso: Ospreys by 13
Ulster v Leicester Tigers: Ulster by 5
Racing Metro 92 v Edinburgh: Racing Metro 92 by 5
Scarlets v Northampton Saints: Scarlets by 13
Montpellier v Bath: Montpellier by 5
Aironi Rugby v ASM Clermont Auvergne: ASM Clermont Auvergne by 23
London Irish v Cardiff Blues: Cardiff Blues by 10
Munster v Castres Olympique: Munster by 28
Toulouse v Connacht Rugby: Toulouse by 23
Harlequins v Gloucester Rugby: Harlequins by 6
Glasgow Warriors v Leinster: Leinster by 8
Saracens v Biarritz: Saracens by 10

Most of them look about right. Bookies are way off on a couple – can get Scarlets at 10/11 and Cardiff the same…
Can’t see Munster putting 28 on Castres – that’s not really the way they do things, but should get the win easily enough.
Scarlets v Northampton Saints: Scarlets by 8
Montpellier v Bath: Montpellier by 5
Aironi Rugby v ASM Clermont Auvergne: ASM Clermont Auvergne by 25
London Irish v Cardiff Blues: Cardiff Blues by 6
Munster v Castres Olympique: Munster by 14
Toulouse v Connacht Rugby: Toulouse by 34
Harlequins v Gloucester Rugby: Harlequins by 11
Glasgow Warriors v Leinster: Leinster by 13
Saracens v Biarritz: Saracens by 14
Handy one for Saracens at -7.
Has to be Sundays banker
Harlequins should have a tough fixture there.
