as a springbok mad saffa, the win of the lions series will never be remembered as much as the sick feeling after the second test because of schalk burger.

if evidence supported a malicious gouge more than reckless play i would have not been disappointed at all with six months to a year. (he may have been)

i think even the lions agree that while it was reckless and frankly stupid it pales in comparison to what we have seen by julien dupuy.

he should have got a year on the sidelines. i'm pretty sure that an eye gouge has never been supported by such clear evidence displaying as much malicious intent as what he showed.

is max saying it is anti-french because gouging is a very french thing to do?

Justin, the eye gouging is NOT "Boys will be boys"-contrary to what De Villers would say, and the ERC 6 month ban on Dupuy is NOT some sort of Francophobia plot. It is as nasty and vile of a foul that exists in the sport of rugby. You should not have to risk blindness to play this game. The IRB and ERC need to really get tough on this. The Dupuis foul was so evident and malicious, I think that even 6 months was light-but it's a good start.
