Gloucester Rugby Heritage

Gloucester

We’ve been sent a copy of ‘Gloucester Rugby Heritage’ this week, an incredible book containing a treasure trove of historical facts, figures and photographs of the famous club.

When the old wooden grandstand was destroyed to make way for the new stand at Kingsholm in 2007, a huge store of memorabilia, archives and heritage material was saved from the skip and formed the basis for the Heritage project.

It’s a beautifully presented book that sis a must-have for any Gloucester fan, and for anyone else interested in the history of our sport.

InvinciblesOur favourite sections include ‘Glawster’s Greatest’ – featuring the top ten players that made the biggest impact at the club, such as Tom Voyce (the 1920s vintage), Mike Teague and Phil Vickery – and The Invincibles, the team that went unbeaten throughout the 1882/3 season.

The intention is to present the archives to the community, via the book and the website at www.gloucesterrugbyheritage.org.uk, whilst inviting contributions through donations of other mementoes and memories. There must be all sorts of rugby memorabilia hidden away in lofts and garages around the world, and this seems like a great initiative to bring some of it together.

The book is available to buy at shop.gloucesterrugby.co.uk, and your Dad will be delighted to open it up on Christmas Day!
