Nobody in The Rugby Blog Prediction League managed to correctly predict all three results in this weekend’s RBS Six Nations. If only I had gone with my head and not my heart for the England match…

Laurence is our new leader this week, even though he didn’t expect Italy to beat Scotland in Rome, and he has edged ahead of David and four others by virtue of a superior TDM score.

It’s still all to play for, and there are bound to be one or two more unexpected results, so let’s see who what happens in Round 4.

Join our Six Nations Prediction League on SportGuru to see who knows their rugby the best!

The game is completely free to play, lots of fun and very addictive, so make sure you get involved before the competition starts. All you need to do is spend two minutes each week picking the winner and winning margin of each game in the tournament – you’ll be awarded points depending on how close you are to the actual result.

Follow this link to join our special leaderboard – www.sportguru.co.uk/therugbyblogsixnations – if you have played before, it’s only a click or two to join. If you haven’t played before, it will take you 30 seconds to register, so there’s no excuse!

Prizes

I’m currently in the process of negotiating some prizes, so keep an eye on the Prizes page within our section of the game for further details.

UPDATE: We have two pairs of the soon-to-be-launched Puma rugby boots, so the winner and runner-up in the league will be super-trendy.

UPDATE: We now have a month’s supply of Yazoo milkshakes to give away to the winner!

Congratulations go to Swifty Senior, who came top of The Rugby Blog Leaderboard in the SportGuru prediction game after an exciting final round.

Rob H was nudged into second place as the All Blacks succumbed to defeat against the Barbarians, and the final standings show just 0.5 points separating the top 3, who all win a signed copy of Lawrence Dallaglio’s new book, Rugby Tales.

Here is the final top 10, but check the league on SportGuru at www.sportguru.co.uk/therugbyblog to see how you did. Keep an eye out for the Six Nations game shortly after Christmas.

There’s only one match left in the Autumn Internationals predictions game (Barbarians v All Blacks) and The Rugby Blog leaderboard is going down to the wire.

Rob H is edging it at the top of the league ahead of kernowboy69 thanks to his superior ‘TDM’ (Total Distance from Margin), whilst Swifty Senior is only 1 point behind in third.

wibble and justinA make up the rest of the Top 5 and with 2.5 points up for grabs next weekend, those in line for prizes in the Top 3 could easily change, particularly as Barbarians’ matches are always difficult to call.

It was a disastrous weekend for me, slipping to 10th. Scotland should have beaten Argentina, and Wales were very disappointing against Australia and cost me valuable points.

What did you think of the weekend’s games? Were you surprised by any of the results? How did you do in your predictions?

We have set up our own special leaderboard which is free to join, and we’ll have our own section of the site and there will even be some prizes on offer.

So far, we have a signed copy of Lion Man, Ian McGeechan’s book, and we may have a few signed copies of Lawrence Dallaglio’s latest masterpiece to give away. We’ll bring you details as soon as we can.

After joining The Rugby Blog Leaderboard, you can still play in up to 3 private pools as well, so there’s no reason not to play. Send the invitation to your friends and family as well, and we’ll see who knows their rugby the best.

The first game is this Saturday 31st October when Australia play New Zealand in Tokyo, so get involved before then.

There are separate tournaments on SportGuru for each competition, and there are some incredible prizes to be won, courtesy of European Rugby Cup (ERC). These include tickets for the best player in every round, as well as an all-inclusive VIP trip to the Heineken Cup final in Paris next May.

There are a few private leagues available for you to join, and we’ll sort out a prize for the winners of each – perhaps a few crates of Heineken and some sort of re-insurance policy for the respective tournaments! Here are the details:

The Rugby Blog – Heineken Cup – pool code: bodygoth
The Rugby Blog Podcast – Heineken Cup – pool code: etnakale
The Rugby Blog – Amlin Challenge Cup – pool code: partjaws

You can play in up to three private leagues, so get your own pool set up with your mates as well. Good luck!

After three rounds of the Guinness Premiership, all the promise of the most competitive season ever appears to be coming true. The Rugby Blog’s prediction league on SportGuru has seen mixed success, and with so many surprise results, the first three rounds have been a thorough test.

Here are the standings for the top 10. There wasn’t room to get all 81 of us on here, so you’ll have to visit the SportGuru site to see where you are in the league.

‘PK’ is edging it at the top of the table from ‘Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan’ by virtue of picking up more bonus points for being the closest to the actual result more often.

‘Rob H’ was leading the way after two rounds, but has been bumped to third after a disapointing round. Os du Randt deserves a mention in sixth place (nicknamed ‘OS’), although for all his international caps and legendary status in the game, he is still only level on points with my wife, ‘Mrs Hutch’.

Stand by for a full report from the weekend’s action in the Premiership, which is being written right now.

We are proud to say that we are involved with the launch of a new sports predictions game called SportGuru which will be ready to play in the next few weeks, in time for the new rugby season.

Those that have played SuperBru will recognise the similarities – SportGuru is a re-branded version of the game specifically for the UK market, concentrating on UK and European tournaments.

Those that haven’t played SuperBru will love it as well. The game is remarkably simple, in that all you have to do is predict the winner and winning margin for each fixture in a round of matches. You are rewarded with points according to how close you were to the actual result and you can compete against your friends and everyone else in prediction leagues.

You will be hearing more about it as the summer goes on and we get nearer and nearer to the first game of the new season.

For now though, we are running mini-predictions challenges every week and giving away an iPod Shuffle for the person with the best prediction. Head for www.sportguru.co.uk and see if you can win one by predicting the winner of this weekend’s Tri Nations clash between South Africa and New Zealand.

Look out on that site for the revelation of the new logo later in the week as well. Exciting times.
