Andy Robinson delighted as Scotland beat Australia

Scotland beat Australia for the first time in 27 years yesterday, maintaining Andy Robinson’s 100% record as the man in charge.

Two penalties from Phil Godman and a dropped goal from Chris Paterson were enough to clinch victory, despite a last-minute try from Ryan Cross – Matt Giteau missed the conversion that would have saved their blushes.

The Scottish players fought heroically, and although Giteau missed three penalties, Scotland’s defensive effort meant that the win was nothing less than deserved.

Robinson said afterwards, “That was the most courageous performance I’ve ever been involved with – either as a player or as a coach.”

He’s now a hero himself north of the border. Get him back to England, I say!
